Hello, Last year I was in charge of something for the teachers the first morning and I did muffins. I bought large muffins and took them in with napkins and left one on each teacher's desk before they arrived along with this poem:
Little Miss Muffet
Sat down on her tuffet
ready to teach for the day.
When to her surprise
the PTO arrives
with a great muffin to start her day.
"Thank you!" she says.
"You're welcome," is replied
"hope this helps brighten
your first day!"
We do a welcome back brunch for the teachers on the day of orientation. This year's orientation is aug 1, kids go back on aug 3. It's nice and we can all sit around and enjoy each others company. Then the PTO helps with final preparations for teachers before orientation which starts at 6. We do the finishing touches that may may need done, or stuff in the office to help get ready for the first day.
Personally, for my child's teacher, I found some stamps (that say things like A+, sign here, great job) and an apple scented stamp pad at target, along with some stickers, and a candle and a small pack of tylenol and wrap them in cellophane and am going to use D's poem. My otheer child's tacher is very practical so I bought her some of her favorite frozen meals and a case of water for her fridge in her room. I actually already gave those to her and she was more than thrilled. She's 1st grade, and appreciates any thing at all that you do. For most, it is just the thought!
You could give each teacher a packet of flower seeds with a little tag that says "Teachers plant seeds that grow forever"...or any other cute poem/phrase that goes with teaching and planting and kids, etc.
I think you can get seed packets pretty cheap (or maybe expired ones for free).
We also put a basket of breakfast type items in the staff lounge (bagels, muffins, danishes, etc.) for all the staff to enjoy on their first day. We also put out cups and juice as well. It's always the most hectic day of the school year and eating breakfast may not fit into their schedule that morning.
Sure--not real exciting, we did them on tags and tied them with ribbon to the celophane bag we had the cookie lollipop in....
There’s so much excitement the children may burst
so before the year starts we want to say first
that we parents know of the work that you do and
all the care that you take so as this year starts new,
slowly munch on this heart before the first day begins
and may it cause you to smile as our little hearts walk in…
