Publicity Committee

We don't have a committee, but we do have a Public Relations officer on our board. She is in control of keeping our bulletin board up to date in the front office, writing our blurb in the school newsletter, getting any info. out to the local newspaper, and this year she'll be helping with our PTO newsletter as well...Pretty much anything that will help publicize who we are and what we're doing for our community and school. That is her main role, but she also helps out on many other committees.

Hi JK--well I don't have that particular committee but I can think of a bunch of things to do....sell advertising space to school families for local businesses (we do that to cover all our copier costs), get a local newspaper to run a feature ad on your PTO...or events that you are doing for the PTO. Get photos to the paper so that they can run pictures of your events. We have a news section biweekly that is set up to spread good news about the schools, they could contribute to that or start one if there isn't one. They could create a flier for local vendors and businesses on the schools needs and ways to contribute. They could send these same pamphlets to incoming families to advertise the news about your school. I even go so far as to use the local papers editorial section for business thank you editorials that do contribute....

Anyway--those are some ideas....

hope it helps...

Hello: I'm the new PTO president for our school in 2006-07 and we have had a publicity committee but have never done anything with it.

Does anyone have this as a PTO committee and what are the groups duties and how do they fit in with your PTO?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks jkprez
