The school might break attendance records at ballpark too (Marlins and Braves stink at drawing attendance)

We do a Back to School picnic every year and we have a lot of fun at it! We do it the Sunday before we go back to school. We rent a few bouncers, have lots of games for young and old and have lunch.
EX: this year we are going to have an Obstacle Course bouncer, a Caterpillar for the younger kids, and a bouncer. The games we are playing are the sack race, relay race, clothes relay race, water balloon toss, water balloon fight, three-legged race, shoe scramble, etc. For lunch we are having hot dogs, small bag of chips, a cookie, and lemonade or water.
We have a local business that loans tables, chairs and tents to non-profits and they are loaning those to us this year. Last year we had AAA Insurance come in and they did child ID's--which was very cool!
We also have different "booths" set up--we have Spirit wear and various spirit items that we will be selling, we are a private school with uniforms and we have a uniform exchange table and we also will be handing out our back to school information packets! please contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. This year, for the first time, we are planning a Back to School Bash. Our Meet the Teacher night is always the Thursday night before school starts. This year the PTO is going to do a cookout outside with "dime a dog" hotdogs and other finger foods, have prize giveaways every 1/2 hour for parents, kids, and teachers, with a grand prize in each. We are also having carnival games (no prizes)and the playground will be open for play, with music playing all around. The third grade will be having a bake sale to raise funds for their zoo trip and the PTO will have a table with Back to School Packets and other pertinent info.
Our school does a social the week before school starts. It used to be a dinner (hot dogs, beans, etc), but this will be our 3rd year having an ice cream social instead.
We have 2 large inflatable things (a big slide and a bounce house). The kids also play on the playgrounds. Last year we had a dunk tank that a couple teachers got into. We also have a DJ playing music.
We have tables set up with teachers from each grade (we are PK3 - 12th grade) and also have a bunch of specials tables (art, computer, sports booster, etc).
We have a PTF area where we check in families and give them their coupon for ice cream. We also solicit everyone to join PTF and let them know what kind of activities we have planned.
I love the idea of the lunch on the first day of school. School begins for us the day after labor day and I think we have a lower turnout at our social because it's the Thursday evening before the holiday weekend. Alot of people are away or going away that weekend.
