I would suggest you start over. I don't know your school and your situation but generally without parental support you might want to consider activities that are a little bit smaller scale then a dinner dance with buses for fifth graders.
Calling people personally and asking for help is a better (though labor intensive)way to get people involved. Divide the classes up and make personal calls to the parents asking for specific help. If you do not get the help you need, tell the parents that due to the lack of involvement, the event is cancelled. Our fifth graders had a pizza lunch at school where the kids ate and got their friends to sign their yearbooks. The pta donated a yearbook to every fifth grader.
As a parents of a HS and college student, I can tell you that there is plenty of time for dinner dances when they are older and more able to appreciate them.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL WHATEVER HAPPEN TO PARENTS THAT WERE INVOLVED WITH CHILDREN SCHOOL. WE ARE TRYING TO PLAN A TRIP AND DANCE FOR OUR 5TH GRADE STUDENTS FOR THEIR LAST YEAR AT YHE SCHOOL. NOT HERE IS THE PROBLEM THE PARENTS DON'T WANT TO HELP, WE HELD A MEETINGS FOR THE PARENTS AND ONLY 1 PERSON CAME. WE SENT HOME LETTERS EXPLAINING WHAT WE WERE PLANNING INCLUDING THE COST OF EVERYTHING FROM THE BUSES TO THE FOOD FOR THE DINNER DANCE. NO RESPONSE AT ALL. WE JUST HELD A BAKE SALE AND ONLY 6 PARENTS DONATED (1 PARENT DID NOT HAVE A %TH GRADER AND STILL HELP). PLEASE HELP ME I AM AT MY LAST FOR WORDS .
