Weekly Newsletter takes place of flyers

We do a weekly email to our PTO members. Since most people do have email these days. And it is a wonderful incentive for folks to join. We have some people that join just so they'll get the email reminders. Then we do a newletter each month "Bobcat Prints" and we are going to start a children's addition, designed, typed, written and meant for the children. We'll call it "Little Prints" and it should be cool to get the kids view on things. Might only come out once a quarter but a great way to tie in to learning SOLs. d

Hey Luv my Kids

It's wonderful to receive all the info on the exact same day every week. Then, parents know which day to really look in the backpack. We do Wednesdays but alot of schools do Fridays.

What a good idea. I wish I would have heard of it two weeks ago when I had three flyers to make in one week. I can see our parents really liking this-comes home once a week on the same day, no more little half sheet notes every two or three days. I'm going to present the idea to the board and see what they think.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

Good for you!

Our school(not PTO) does a weekly newsletter every week--on Wednesdays--and last year, when I was President, I created a Yahoo Group and began to e-mail this newsletter to parents and it has worked great. We put all of our announcements in our weekly newsletter but do occasionally send a separate flyer.

Congratulations!

Weekly Newsletter takes place of flyers was created by Denise Ryland
I have just started a new tradition at our school. Rather than sending home PTO flyers and reminder flyers two and three times a week, I have created a PTO newsletter that is sent home every Monday.

My newsletter includes upcoming events, volunteer information, school reminders and club information.

It has been well recieved by the parents. I have received alots of positive comments. My favorite is that they know to look for the newsletter on Mondays. No more flyers lost in the school bags.

It is very time consuming to create a weekly newsletter. One that was intended for PTO use that has turned into a school wide newsletter. But if it means getting more parents involved because their getting the information than it's worth my time. :D
