Well, we seem to have a handle on our spending now. The borad has made it clear that there is to be no spending without following the bylaws and people HAVE to stay within their budget. I'll keep you posted if there are any further problems/hopefully there won't be though!

SKIP THE BY-LAWS...CALL THE BANK! Sorry, now that I read that there is really not a whole lot to do there either!
The members need a clear picture of what is going on and more important without their imput!

I do have to tell you, when I read the title I thought "Oh God! My Secretary is having a fit!" HA! But to be honest we don't even have $6000 to spent!

What is going to happen here is the members need to be notified, statements need to be shown and YOU need to bring up at the next meeting that as much as you enjoy what you are doing, this kind of spending is out of control and an insult (gotta be a better word here) to the membership! It's the Parent Teacher Org's money not the President Tresurer Overspending club!

you should have in your bylaws a statement to the fact that this is not allowed and what consequences are of "overspending". the core group of the PTO needs to step up and define what the problem is and address it quickly

We have bylaws in place for this. But there reasoning is that the things make the money back. The point to me is that 2 people on the board took it upon themselves to spend this money WITHOUT a board vote. They dont seem to care about leaving that little tid bit out. Personally, I think they both should step down. Things seem to be crazy all becasue they are not following the bylaws. Very bad. There should be something in your bylaws about the authority to spend money. We have an amendment in that gives the president a discretionary fund of 75 dollars a month to spend that does not require a vote. It is not cumulative. Everything else requires a board vote or the individual signing the check is liable. That's what your bylaws are supposed to do for you...you guys need to stop insanity and make sure that the Pres doesn't think she is king...d
