Can one do to much in this situation? But yet again you are only one person.
Is this child close to the age of one of your children? Perhaps before school you could take them out together and do some shopping. That way she may not feel as if she is getting "special treatment" if she doesn't want it. Perhaps as a neighbor and friend you could do a benefit of some sort for the family and maybe your members could sponsor that. I am thinking you live in a small community, I am sure your memebers would be more than glad to help this family in need.
This has been such a difficult year at our school, losing a student during the holidays and a teacher before Spring Break, the staff has just been informed of the loss of a staff member. She had battled cancer for three years, yesterday she passed.
Her daughter will be in 6th grade this fall and I would like to see if our members could offer to help her older daughter(she is 20 something) with the purchase of school supplies etc. I would rather take her personaly to buy shoes than a gift card to assure she gets a new pair of shoes.....but I don't want to make it big deal but I do know the family is facing major medical expenses and have asked for help from our uniform program.
We are planting a tree for the teacher and will see about buying another one for the staff member. Am I doing too much?
