The last part of this is a section of a welcome (back) letter I'll send home the first day of school. I hope this is helpful to anyone in need. Some observant readers will see bits of other posts and suggestions from PTOtoday! AJ
The PTO is not an elite group of a few parents…it includes every parent of every elementary
child. We hope to promote cooperation and teamwork. Students who know their parents are
involved and communicate regularly with their school, usually work harder, feel more confident,
and do better in their schoolwork.

Explanation of events:
Something else that I was thinking about adding was an area for parents to write in general
"What I am Good at" notes. It can be helpful to know who has typing or accounting skills, or
who is a good artist. You never know when you may need to call on someone who can weld, for
instance.

What programs have you attended at our school in the past?
Which programs would you like to see continued/discontinued?
What type of large projects would you like to have our PTO spend money it has raised on?
Pavilion? Upgrade computers? Playground Equipment?
Which have been your favorite fundraisers in the past?
Our PTO events typically take place on Tuesday evenings. What time would be most convenient for them to start?
The success of XXX PTO is dependent upon people who are enthusiastic about volunteering at our school. We have many committees that are active at different times of the year and require various levels of commitment. Our Spring Carnival is a large event and needs many volunteers on a Saturday in March. Santa’s Shop and Book Fair need volunteers who are available for part of the school day. The committees of parents who plan our events and put together the Yearbook often work together in the evenings.
Whatever your own level of availability, XXX PTO needs your help. We always appreciate you, our parent volunteers, as do our teachers and staff. Keep in mind that by volunteering, you will get to enjoy interacting with the kids, becoming friends with other parents, and accomplishing things that truly make a difference.
