In my friends school, they have a program called Give-A- Book. They get local businesses to donate money and they give every child in the school a free personalized book. I have one of the books as a sample(because I was looking into for our school, but since we don't really have any big businesses in our town, it makes it hard). The company that makes the book is PersonallyYoursBooks.

I'm sure any personalized book company can help you out with this.

One of the reading specialists has offered to work up a session to teach parents how to help their children practice reading skills and techniques for figuring out new words. We'll offer it during our Family Reading Night in November. The reading specialists and teachers are very excited about the program and I'm thrilled!

Wow! I laid out a projected budget for this program and it's gonna be pricey. Kind of scared me at first, but yesterday I started making phone calls to some retail and manufacturing businesses in our community and got such an amazing response. The people I spoke with were totally excited about this program! I have people scrambling to get us grant forms, making contacts from their end to see how to get us money, and looking for ways to shift funds from other areas to help support us. I even have two representatives from major companies that had grant programs this would qualify for that are currently "closed", but they offered to take our information and personally see to it that it gets in as soon as the programs open back up! Most places just tell you to try later on your own so I was thrilled.

Anyone else getting funding from businesses in their communities?

Dont know what the theme is, yet. Last year was Read America

It will be an incentive based program that will run through the entire school year. We kick off in late September with our Book Fair
At this time families will also have the opportunity to sign a Reading Contract (gonna borow from LUV)in which they promise that each family member will participate. We will provide log sheets for tracking their books (K-2/pages 3-5th). They receive prizes for each level 15 books or 300 pages and every student and family who signs up will be able to participate in a monthly drawing
At the end of the school year all whom have reached lvl 8 get a reading gold medal, then we have top class (1-3place), top grade (1-3place),top school (1-3 place)
Throughout the school year we will have Family Events-a Reading Night(ordered the kit from this site), a Family Game Night and another Book Fair in the spring.

Plus I'm gonna borrow more of LUV' ideas
