We do not do a volunteer of the year, but last year for the first time we did do a volunteer appreciation night- "Dessert Fest" Lots of chocolate goodies, cakes, fresh fruit, chocolate fondue, cookies, ice cream you name it we had it....went over pretty well, I must say.We got all the classes from both schools to make a Thank you poster and we laminated them and hung them all up on the walls throughout the cafeteria. Some classes did class poems thanking all the parents, some did individual poems which we put together in booklets and left on the tables for all to read. It certainly was a sight to see, especially having the kids have input.
I think this year they are going to continue with volunteer recognition.
We don't have a volunteer of the year, but we do have a recognition party. Last year we had a catered dinner and handed out certificates printed with the individual's name. This year my co-prez suggested a breakfast, but we haven't met to start planning it yet. Also, instead on certiciates, we're considering metal pins with some sort of variation of "volunteer" on it.
We don't do a volunteer of the year, but last year I did a recognition program where I posted a photo and short bio of a different volunteer each week. It helped the students, teachers, and parents get to know the people who were helping in the classrooms, and made those people feel special and appreciated. Our teachers do a volunteer tea at the end of the school year for all the classroom volunteers.
I also would be interested in any info on this. I have thought about hosting a dinner for all of our pto volunteers. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!!
