Are you positive the PTO pays to cater these lunches because we serve lunch at our PTO meetings and it's all donated by different parents. (Each grade takes a month) You may want to discreetly find out for sure...

It is a bad thing that the school doesn't want you there. But I agree that your child's teacher may be very willing to have you help out. Even if you can't be at the school, there may be things that you could do from home.
Thanks for your responses. I am glad to here that I am not the only one who does not agree the PTO should cater a luncheon each month. By the way, the Principal is there each month also! And I have written the Superintendant on a district policy issue that affected my family, noted to him the difficulty in getting involved and asked for a response. But no one wanted to get back to me (that was almost a year ago). My mother has volunteered in the classroom, but they do not really do that here although she was able to take one child each visit to the library to read.
I will take your advice and consentrate on my daughter in our own studies and involvement! It is such a shame when schools turn away parent involvment when so many other places are in dire need of it! Some schools just do not want change!
Since you are interested in being active in your daughters school; and right now the PTO isn't giving you that opportunity maybe you could talk with her teacher and see what you can do for her classroom. I know it isn't exactly what you were looking for but at least you know your efforts will be appreciated (by your daughter) and that what you do will not benefit a group of people who think the PTO is a country club group that gets together to lunch once a month. Good Luck.
They pay for the lunch with PTO FUNDS ???? That would be over my dead body. My efforts for fundraisingvolunteering efforts should not not be used to feed those people. I can't believe that no one has said anything before. Does the Principal know? What about the teachers? They're taking funds away from the kids and that's not right.
The only thing you could do in this situation is to speak with the Principal and the Superintendent. I would be curious to know if they are aware that they are buying themselves lunch with the funds. They certainly should not be doing that.
They should certainly handle this with discretion and not reveal your name to them.
