Thanks for your reply!
Yes I am very upset---The school is a great little elementary school. When it comes to the PTO all you get are brush offs, excuses, and I really do not see much involvement at all. Yes most parents are gung ho at the open house and sign up for everything. Come volunteer time pickings are slim. Sometimes things come up in life that will not allow you to volunteer....Well Prez--move on to the next-Don't just give up. That is exactly what she does. In two years I have been called once to volunteer. Then she blames the parents for not helping!---I am so tired of excuses! I would love to do more but I do not know the rules or laws of the PTO.....
Snookie,
It sounds like you're upset too. I would say that elections for most organizations are in the spring. So I'd get to the next meeting and bring it up in front of the membership that you'd like to know when elections for board members are being held. Talk to the principal of the school and see if he has any insight for you on who they are and why do run their group this way without including parents who want to help. Good luck.
This issss a sad situation! Sadly I am just a mom who also wants to be part of the PTO in my daughters school. The PTO seems NON-EXISTANT!!!
No Newsletters, I have been to 2 meetings since Sept.
It is almost like they have their own click!!!
My friends and I have offered ideas help etc.. to be pushed aside---But God knows they want the $$ or the help. Funny I didn't see half of them at The Holiday Shop this past Dec. They are useless without any directions.
So Who holds the elections??? Should I tell the principal or superintendent how disgusted most of us are!!! How do we get rid of the dead wood!
What a sorry situation for you to be in. It's such a shame that there are so many of us who get put into these situations when all we want is a great education and opportunity to participate in that for our children.
I would make an appointment to SEE the Principal and I would make an appoiontment to SEE the superintendent. You can't keep e-mailing, writing letters and leaving voice mail. You have to talk to someone and make a physical appointment to share your concerns. No one has the right to stifle you from participating.
It's time for change and I think you should go for it. If there are other schools in your area that are the same grade level, I would contact their PTA/PTO president and speak to him/her about it too. See what's going on in the district as a whole. Good luck.
I am sitting here at my computer, absolutely aghast at what I am reading!!! I would make as much noise as possible about this. Siphoning off funds from a non-profit organization, for whatever reason, is unethical and illegal. They are snobs and crooks, the lot. And if the principal is in on it, I would seriously consider switching schools. If the culture of your childs school is this corrupt, would you really want your child to hang with one of theirs?
If you are hell bent on making changes from the inside, I would ask to see the by-laws of the PTO, as all PTOs must have them. Determine who's term is up (again, all positions should have a term limit) and run for that position.
My son's PTO has been one big soap opera this year and much of it has been petty and distasteful. So if misery loves company...
Does the PTO have an election? Chances are if you are unhappy with the group many others are too, and would welcome a change. The group or the principle should be able to tell you when the elections are held.
