Thanks for all of the support and input! I would consider going over the principal's head on this, but...the Board of Ed's elementary education director and our school principal are the BEST of friends...(they taught together years back and are very close). Any type of "problem" that any parent has gone to her with has been swept under the rug when the principal's involved. It's REALLY not worth the aggravation of trying, unfortunately. The principal has lashed out at other parents when she catches wind that they're unhappy. By being the pres this year, already a walking target. I'm actually thinking of going to State PTA then National, if needed. Don't know what else I can do!
I can't believe that this woman continues to do this after you have talked to her and written her a letter. I wouldn't say this in most cases but since the principal can't handle this woman maybe it's time to go over her head and talk to the district office. It's not like this is nit-picking; as one other person said this can affect your finances if parents think they are giving money to you and it goes somewhere else. If one parent would complain about being confused maybe that would motivate the principal to handle this woman. I feel sorry that you have to deal with someone who is so uncooperative. Good Luck to you.
The principal may need to institute a policy that every letter/flyer that goes home has to be approved both before and after it is copied. At least this way, the letters are intercepted before they go home with the kids.
This isn't the best answer of course, but, until the principal sits down with the other group (not just the teacher) to lay down the law there are probably not going to be any changes.
Thank you for your help! We DID redesign the letterhead for this year--guess what she does? Cut the letterhead off of the PTA flyers and glues them onto HER letters after the principal approves her letter. I've talked to the principal about this, and she's not able to get that woman under control. (The lady--and I use the term loosely--has been a teacher at the school for about 35 years, and no one wants to upset her) I'm pulling my hair out over this one!
I would first try to talk to your principal regarding this situation. Another way to really hit it home, tell her if money is being requested and PTA's name is attached, then it is PTA money and you MUST deposit it into your PTA account (for legal reasons) and then once she fills out the funding request forms (make them a bit difficult) you will donate them back if it's approved, which could take 1-4 weeks to approve. Using your letterhead may just not be worth the hassle after all! Really, by attaching PTA to any of her requests, you are legally responsible for anything that may result from it. (will there be an issue? doubtful, but still)
If not, you can redesign your letterhead and then send out a memo to the parents (that due to the misuse of PTA materials, all approved PTA flyers will be initialed by the President located in the *** and the Principal or yada yada yada.
