Positive principal/parent group relationship

positive principal/group relations. I think even when you have a supporting principal you have "discussions". Our principal has been here for 17 years, first as a teacher and has bee principal since 2000. She started our group in 2001 as a hope to get parents involved, she ran the group the first four months. she has only missed one meeting since 2001, she has been at every event we have ever had , and when you think that we have at least one a month! She allows us full use of the copiers, laminators, etc. She has to approve our newsletters, flyers, etc but generally allows us to do as much as we want. She has never really stopped us from doing anything and has become a strong advocate for our group district wide. Problem is...she's is leaving in January to become our assistant superintendent. What will become of us....we have yet to see. There are so many ways that principals support parent groups, take the time to realize it before they are gone=)

MY TURN!!!!!!

This is only our principal's 2nd year at our school. We had a very "strict, sargeant-like" principal prior to her arrival.

Last year, her first year, she kind of sat back, supported us and brought in a few fun ideas of her own.

This year, now that she has one year planted, she's stepped forward and made some changes which have proven to be positive moves. Their not big changes, just some minor ones. She supports us and the teachers 100%. There are just a few parents who get upset at every change she makes and go straight to the superintendant to complain about it but you know, those parents just don't like change.

We've got a very positive and fun atmosphere in our school which is reflected onto the students and it's making for a GREAT year so far and we're seeing more and more parents stepping up to the plate to help out because of it.

When our principal arrived three years ago, he had only served one year as a vice-principal, and only a couple of years as a teacher. He had no kids of his own; he was very young. I know parents were nervous about how he could manage a growing school of over 650 students. Wow, has he risen to the challenge.

Our principal is incredibly supportive of the PTO, and has worked side by side with the parents on many projects. He attends every PTO meeting, and most of our events. His "youthful enthusiasm" generates new initiatives for curriculum, character-building, and parent involvement. He listens to the PTO's ideas and works constructively with us. He never gets in the way of our finances, and is humbled by the generosity of our parent community. He has earned the respect of the parents and teachers - many of whom were skeptical at the onset.

I have a child in this building for two more years. My hope is that our wonderful principal isn't lured away by a bigger, more prestigious school before our family is finished. We are lucky to have our principal.

Our principal attends all the PTO meetings and supports us in everything we do. She always tells us how much she appreciates all our hard work and she brags us up to the administration and school board every chance she gets. She also makes a real effort to get all the teachers to attend meetings and support our programs and that sure makes life easier. We have teachers on our board and they volunteer at many events. She became a real ally and friend during my two years as president and we still get together and chat frequently as I expand my role beyond the PTO. I really feel our group wouldn't be as successful as it is without the support of our principal and teachers. Their positive attitude towards our group gives a great impression to all parents.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

We have a totally terrific principal who we all love!! She includes parents in everything, her door is always open to everyone. She knows every child in her school by name on site 570 kids!! She listens, take suggestions, offers help, and most of all appreciates anything we do not matter how small! She came to us 4 years ago and we do not know what we did before her and have told her she is never allowed to even think of leaving! We consider ourselves soooooooo LUCKY!

Our principal is nothing but supportive. She is glad to have us and supports everything that we do. She has a very positive outlook on the school and what we are there to accomplish. I, too, feel blessed to be a part of our school parent group!
