Send me an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will get you some sample letters. I respond much faster that way than through here.
I don't have a sample I can give(handed them all over to the new Prez), but I can give you some basic tips.
1. Describe the event you are requesting donations for and how it will benefit your students, families, and community.
2. Give a brief summary of the success of the previous year. How much you made, where the money was spent, etc.
3. Be sure to give a number of how many people will be affected by the success of the event and how many typically attend. Businesses want to know the number of people who will be exposed to their generosity.
4. Detail how the donors will be recognized. Will there be flyers, posters, thank-you letters?
5. Provide you non-profit information or at the very least state that you are a recognized non-profit and can provide the information if required. Donors will need this for tax purposes.
6. Most of all be heartfelt in your writing. Get in the frame of mind where you are thinking of how much a donation will mean to your organization and try to convey that feeling in your letter.
