I'm voting for pizza by the slice. Dominoes is giving us their largest pizza for $6 each. They suggest selling it for $2 a slice. That's not expensive around here. We'd make $10 a pizza.
I'm looking for those super large bags of popcorn that we can package that morning. We set off the fire alarm 3 times last time we tried to use the rented pop corn popper. We did get a chance to solialize a lot and there was something to talk about, but I don't think we want to repeat the experience.
We're also considering carmel apples. I like the cotton candy. I reccommend making a lot of bags before the event so there isn't too much of a line.
I'm a big fan of easy food that doesn't require anyone to cook 40 lbs of hamburger or whatever. - I used to be in charge of monthly dinners for a singles church group. Having been the one cooking until 2am, I would NOT wish that on anyone else.
if you can find a machine, sno-cones are a big hit at our school along with cotton candy, funnle cakes, and popcorn. check with the other schools in your area before you rent because they might have some of the equipment already. we trade off the popcorn machine to one school for their event to use their cotton candy machine at ours.
You could do a baked potato bar. Bake the potatoes the night before and keep them foil wrapped in a cooler. Set the toppings up in a shaded, cold place (in ice or whatever) on a table. I love the baked potato bars and it's a nice healthier option (unless you are an Atkin's person- in which case, steak on a stick! )
Rent a cotton candy machine! It takes a couple tries to get it down right, but it was a huge hit at our Fall Festival. Also Juice boxes or Capri Suns for the kids. We also did the popcorn machine, but the cotton candy was a hit with both the parents and adults!
We have a ham supper every year , but we make good profit I miss the spaghetti and chili suppers that used to popular when I was a kid. The VFDs do bean suppers.
As far as concession stuff I hear funnel cakes are easy, they are usually a big hit.
We do pizza by the slice, hot dogs, and nachos. The pizza place does really big slices in a triangle box so it's very easy to serve, and we get the chips, cheese sauce, and salsa donated by a local restaurant. On top of that we have a bake sale where we also serve pie and cake by the slice(people forget all about their low-carb diets!!).
