Our school has a 20 minute lunch and then a 20 minute recess right after. LOwer grades often have Play time , but upper grades do not. Each class has gym twice a week. I think the reason we have such a structured day is Department of Education mandates. The state of NY as well as the feds have put so much emphasis on standardize testing that each year we see more and more of the "fun" stuff go away. That is where our group comes in , to try to have some "fun" stuff without interupting class time. It gets harder and harder for teachers to reach the standards that they need to reach...dont meet the standards you lose funds...catch 22
Your school's problem might be the hours. Our kids have more recess time than yours; however, our school day is 8:00 - 3:00. If you try to get more recess time for your school, the hours might have to change.
Okay, I guess being outta school already two weeks I've lost touch some. Sorry. I just my boys swallow [img]smile.gif[/img] sandiwiches, praying they chew, and run back outside!
WOW! I am going to print this out and give it to our school board. Our K-5 school has 20mins. for lunch and 10 mins. for recess. Which in most cases by the time the kids line up (with partially eaten lunches being thrown out)and they :eek: are SILENT enough to walk all the way to the opposite end of the school building where the playground is - they get maybe 5-7 minutes of actual recess. One of my friends is a lunch aide and she confirms what the children complain about. Our school day is 9:00 - 3:10 we are in the greater Chicagoland area. I just can't believe that some of you got up to 3 recesses a day!! :eek:

There is NEVER a day when all the kids in the cafeteria are done eating early. I've sat with my son many times and there's always one kid talks more then he eats and then shoves down the food because the time is up. In our school there are only 2 people to watch 60 to 80 kids for recess so everything has to be done for the group.
