Every six weeks at my son's elementary school, they have an honors program. They have the principal's list for students with all A's and the Soaring Eagle (the school's mascot is an eagle) for those who made A's & B's.
They also give out a certificates for perfect attendance and recognize the AR readers with a point club.
The honors program for the last six weeks is always held in the evening and is a very special night for the school. The 5th graders give a special presentation to say goodbye to everyone.
The kids love the honors program. I think it's a great idea. We should all be encouraged to do our best in anything we do.
I can see it in middle school and high school but not elementary schools. My kids never saw less then a B until 8th grade and I don't think that's unusual. There would be more kids on the list then not! Also, our kids don't get A,B,C grades until third grade and then just on basic subject's like reading, math, science and social studies. I liked seeing my kids names and I look for other kids names on the ms and hs lists but I wouldn't take a elementary list very seriously.
Our school currently does not have a homor or merit roll. I think and so do some of the other parents think that it would be nice to announce the kids will all A's and B's and maybe print them out a certificate. I still have mine from when i was younger. Some of the concerns are what if a child does not make it? how will we deal with it. Any imput on this.
Thanks so much
And if anyone does this if they have a template of a award that they give the students please feel free to send it to me
