Our school nurse spoke at a PTO meeting right before our kids took the Basic Skills test about the importance of getting enough sleep and proper diet. She talked about the quantity of sleep children of different ages need, what kinds of breakfast foods are the best for them, and snacks before taking the tests. It was an interesting program, but unfortunately the parents who attend PTO meetings are typically NOT the ones who need instruction on diet and sleep requirements for their children. We want to have her speak again only at some kind of program that draws more parents that might really benefit from the information.
I have been given a position on our board of chairperson of Health and Safety. It does not at this time have a real job description. It is a title we have always had and are now trying to bring forward with more programs for the kids, teachers, and even parents. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas that could help me. We know about red ribbon week. Not sure yet if it is our job or the schools. Also thought of having the police dept. come and do a bike and helmet safety. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance for your help.
