I had this same question about a week ago and this is what I have come up with -- First of all, we didn't want to scare the kids, but we felt like we should do something. I've arranged for the Air Force Recruiter, a Policeman, and a Fireman to come in and talk to the kids, just about their jobs and things in general, not really anything specific about 9/11. Also, in the morning, each child will receive a flag sticker to wear on their shirt for the day. And last -- Flight 93 crashed very close to my hometown, so we are going to have a Flight 93 Memorial Fund Drive the whole week of 9-8 to 9-13, we will have a container in each class, along with a picture of the makeshift memorial which is at the sight now. I will send home flyers about a week before to let parents know we are collecting money. The classroom whose jug WEIGHS the most at the end of the week will get an ice cream party sponsored by PTO. I've also found a local bank who is going to count the money for free. Good Luck!!!
Is anyone planning a special tribute for 9/11 in their schools? We are in the NY area, so it is a very sensitive topic here, but we would like to do something to honor those lost in our community.
