Our first meeting is the 11th also...we decided to have three minutes of silence at the start (we have three families who lost loved ones)and we purchased flag stickers to hand out to the kids in the morning. We also funded the planting of two cherry trees to symbolize the twin towers and the classes will be visiting the trees at different times throughout the day.

My first PTO Meeting is 9/11! I'm really trying to handle this delicately without to much or not enough attention. Any ideas?

We spoke to our Principal yesterday on the subject. She is going to have something first thing when the kids get off the bus. I just recently received an email that states that everyone stop what they are doing at 12 Noon (noon in your time zone) and say the Pledge of Allegience. It is in the middle of lunches but I think I am going to try and get volunteers in each part of the school to help this get pulled off. I am hoping that the principal will say it over the intercom system in school. We did pencils and ribbons last year... I'd like to do something unique this year if anyone has ideas.

Thanks!

I addressed this same question just yesterday at our Exec meeting. We decided to not make too big of a deal about it, but to just have a "red, white, and blue day. Our district is having all schools say the Pledge at the same time on that day, followed by a moment of silence. You might want to check out your local teacher supply store for pencils and stuff...but I've seen patriotic pencils EVERYWHERE this year, including Wal-Mart!!

A great place to get patriotic items, including flag stickers and pencils is OrientalTrading.com...Our family purchased the pencils as a gift to our school last year for the week following 9/11.
