Run Again? They Love Me, They Love Me Not...

22 years 8 months ago #106785 by deana
I wish I would have seen this topic sooner!!I have been on my current board for a year now and really enjoy it, BUT our treasurer is very difficult to deal with. The entire board feels this way and we have all decided that eithier she goes or we all go. We have approached our principal( she is new this year)and it is obvious that she doesn't want to make waves. Does anyone have any ideas? HELP!!!!

Thank You for your posts! Especially ncpto. I have done close to what you've suggested. I was going to decline the nomination, when it occured to me that I had other options, options that would help me have a better experience during the meetings, which is why I question accepting another year. I went and recruited the best person I could find to run with me. She said that she would run as VP if I took another year as president. I also spoke to our treasurer and secretary and got them to agree to one more year if I accepted the nomination. So, I have my team in place and what will probably be the next president on the team as well. During the year we will look into who will fill the other positions for the following year. Now, if I can just figure out how to get us all elected!

P.S. Thank You to everyone who has shared their problems of being president or in charge. It has gone a long way into helping me make my decision. I really thought I was the only one out there being labeled a witch (lol) and a dictator, or as one post so delicately put it, Mrs. Bossy. I know that I will refer this site to the new board members, and tell the new PTVO President that this site is a must for them!
Thanks again,
Elizabeth

I would stay on as President...you have created a wonderful PTO for the school...keep it going. This is my second year as PTO President-I am not going to run next year, but you can bet I have recruited some excellent replacements. Unfortunately, our school is not overwhelmed with parents wanting to be on the Board and 4 out of the 6 of us members are leaving, as this is our second-year term. I think the most important thing you can do during your next year in office is to recruit a new President, unless of course your by-laws state the Vice President MUST take-over. Good Luck!

I'm serving my first year as Prez but before that I was Secretary for two and all of my kids aren't even in school yet! With a new baby coming in a matter of weeks (I know!!!) and the challenge of (like Chrystal) doing SUCH a good job but can't get sucker off my forehead, I have said I need a break! I need sometime off. My husband would really like to see me have some time off too! But I like doing it.....
In reality I will be at this school (God willing) another 18 years!!! I have TONS of time! My luck they will nominate me for VP and no one will tell me until elections are over! ;)

Thanks to everyone who responded with words of encouragement. I've been stressing about giving the appearance of a "powermonger" if I accept a third term as president, but the teachers, parents and board members who want me to stay have convinced me that their feelings are based on the performance of the board over the past two years and the successes which we have had.

As for other matters, I guess I should consider myself blessed that I don't have some of the problems posted on this and other discussion forums. Good Grief!!! We've been able to avoid the bickering and backstabbing (okay, to a point...you'll always have some of it!) that some of you have had to endure, and our PTO sounds like it's pretty tame as compared to others. We have approx. 800 kids (K-3) in our school, and we're expanding the school to accommodate more. The PTO works well with the administration, and past board members have moved on, so we don't get the comparisons that other postings have indicated. I'll just shut up now and enjoy the next year!!!

Thanks to all who helped with advice and encouragement.
