Principal running the show.

What do your by-laws say about the principal's position in your PTO? Ours didn't give the principal any specific rights or privileges...a fact that I reminded him of when he and the Child Development Center Director decided to set dues for CDC families at a rate lower than school families.

Stand your ground with the principal, but don't alienate her. You're going to need her for the rest of the year! And I would recommend requiring two signatures on every check. Having 3 or 4 people on the account makes getting the signatures convenient and definitely helped us in the end.

I found out today that our Principal told our new treasurer that the new co-presidents could not have their names on the PTO account. Our treasurer wants our names on the account for her own protection and it was already decided by us that was how we were going to do it. There is nothing in the bylaws stating who is on the account. Previously one person has been doing all the check writing and the books have not been audited for as long as we can tell. Although the bylaws tell us to run an audit every year. This is why we are trying to straighten things out. I don't want to get the Principal on the defensive but she has no right to decide this does she? The outgoing treasurer was suppose turn everything over to us by July 1 but we just got the books this week. I really don't blame the new treasurer for not wanting her name on this sloppy account. Isn't it logical to want the Prez on it?
