I just posted under "free for all" that I found a company called Homestead (www.homestead.com
) and they have VERY easy to use software. It's not as cheap as Michelle's (I pay $17.99 a month), but to me the ease of use, email accounts, bandwdith, number of pages allowed etc. make it worth the expense.
Thank You both for the links and great info. We are tring to predict what the military can and can not allow us to put on there. Obviously we cannot provide any links that are .mil.
I was hoping to establish links to the classrooms, possible look at what I did: pages. Letters to Dad / Mom ect.
I was told that we were not allowed to put the names of the students on .mil websites. We are not even allowed to put teachers names. A site with a log in would be ideal. However most soldiers in combat zones get to log in to this cite maybe every three months. Lines for computers are 5 or more hours for 15minutes of online time. My husband forgets his Atm pin if he doesn't use it once a month at least... I think the log on would be a problem. The military has its rules for obvious reasons,I would rather know that terrorists have not obtained any helpful info, but I wish that military would try to find a way to help deployed spouses stay involved in their childs education as well as everyday life.If the web is not the answer then what? How can a child succeed if they are worried about Daddy coming back alive! We are not talking about one childs father gone we are talking about hundreds,in some schools thousands of these distracted children. What can we do to raise morale for these kids. In my opinion,Deployments are hard enough. Yes,I can mail my spouse my childs report card, pictures of lost teeth, drawings and that but my child wants to know that they are getting it,they want praise for a job well done, what child in general doesn't. But who is to say he will ever see anything sent by mail.
If anyone has ideas on what we could possibly do to help either the child or the the parent on a limited budget. Please feel free to email me.

This sounds like a great project. The one thing to consider IMO is how much securtiy do you want/need. If you just want a site that will provide basic info then Free web space or ever the $24 site will be fine.
If you are going to have information such as names addresses or other personal/simi private information then you may want to realy consider a more secure site.
I am the Acting president of a totaly virtual/on line PTO (we are affiliated with an on line grade school) this is our first year in operation. I am in the prosess of "tweeking" our web site/PTO home now.
Our site offers a fully operational membership security, Message board, Chat room, Photo gallery, and enough space and bandwith that we should never have to worry.
Our school has membership somewhere between 3000 and 5000 families.
your space requirements and Bandwith will be considerably less than ours but you may want to have the same features we offer our members.
I used a "prebuilt site" package in PHP language that is VERY user friendly ( I am a dumb carpenter by trade and had very little problem setting it up)
Out total cost for a 2 yr package was just under $250. That may sound like alot but if you want to see what our site looks like and what you get for $250 for 24 months please contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will give you a full tour.
Also If you were to deside that a site like the one we are using is what you need I will give any assistance I can.
I found at $24.95 a year, My School Online was the easiest to put together and well worth the few bucks. I e-mailed you the link which also includes some of my units websites.
Orgsites is free but you only get one long page and you have to use html code.
I need help establishing a web cite for our PTO. For military parents deployed to Iraq to feel connected with their childs education. If anyone has set up a web cite please send me info on how you got started, costs and support. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
