I am a member of the incoming board. Our outgoing board has 6 members. Our county built a new school and many of our students are going there. Of the six members on the board 4 of them have children going to the new school, one of them has a child moving up to middle school, and one member is staying at our school.
As the board currently sits, they want to make a donation to the new school's PTO/PTA. While the incoming board feels we should give a donation, we feel that since a majority of the board's children will be attending the new school they should default the decision to the incoming board. I know the bylaws don't have say anything about this, we just feel it is unethical.
I would love to hear your opion about this. We really don't want to make a rift as the new school will be our "sister" school and we really like the people on the board and they will probably be on the board at the new school as well.
