Bylaws!!!!

You don't need to tell the old board what you're planning. Just plan for next year and then when the new board takes over everything is set and ready to go.

While Bertha has some great ideas, I don't think you should go behind their backs. I don't think it is wise to antagonize anyone, especially at this point. You don't have to shout, but don't be sneaky about it. Remember, you are setting an example for others... especially your children...

A good rule here would be to do unto others...

This is what I'm working on right now! Our standing rules state that right after our last meeting the new board takes over. It's at the dinner that the old officers and chairpeople turn over their books.

Todsay our new board is meeting to decide on new chairpeople and next years fundraisers. We will have everything in place and right after the dinner it will all go into effect.

Our bylaws are very specific about this issue. The last day of school is the last day of the old regime. The day after school is out, the new officers take over. Sometimes the boards can work together, sometimes not. If they can, the current board begins 'training' the new board right after the election. In the cases where they can't (yes, it happens more frequently than one might think), a box or two of stuff is handed over on the last day of school for the new officers to go over during the summer.

I will tell you that the first year I became pres, I had it sort of in-between. The outgoing pres was moving on and life just got so hectic by the end of school that everything was handed over in boxes, but with explainations to cover most of it. Some things weren't covered (bylaws for example...lol...), but were easily figured out. I did figure everything out pretty easily by looking back at the last school year dates and events. By the time school rolled around in the Fall, I had a pretty good idea of what to do, when to do, and how to do.

If your old board isn't going to help your new board, this might be a great time to shake things up. Out with old, out-dated ideas and in with fresh ones. You still want to know what's in those boxes though. Who knows? Might be some stuff from years ago that can be dusted off, up-dated, and tried again! Your principal might be a good source to help you figure things out as well. Especially with the dates and events that happened throughout the last year or two.

When all else fails, consult Robert's Rules of Conduct for help on the passing of the torch.

Good Luck!
