claire bear has it right it is a do over. You can also make copies of the forms. Hint do this and use the copies as working copies you will find that you will go through several copies of this. Also be sure to retain copies of the final for yourself - I dont offer this advice without experience. When we completed ours - our sectretary thought the Treasurer had made a copy the IRS was kind enough to make a copy for us and send it back though
You only send them one copy. FYI, once you have everything ready to go, the IRS has a "fill in" version of the form at their website at www.irs.gov/pub/irs-fill/k1023.pdf.
You can't file it electronically from there, but you can type all your answers in that form rather than typing or handwriting them on the hard copies you received in your packet.

The instructions don't say anything about sending 2 back. I think that maybe the IRS might have had a little foresight to send a "do-over." Probably a good idea to do one in pencil and get everything right, and then do one neat copy to send in. Just a thought
Ok, this is pretty dumb, but why are there 2 copies of all the 1023 pages is the 501(c)(3) packet the IRS sent us? I can't find anything that says you need to send them 2 copies. Is it just because you're supposed to keep a copy for your records? Or are you actually supposed to send the IRS two copies?
