Does your PTO have a bank account? When we recieve money or checks from any fundraiser, it's the chairperson's responsibility to get it to the treasurer ASAP. She deposits the money as soon as she can into our account. We tell everyone not to send cash, only checks, although sometimes people send in cash anyway. If checks are made payable to the PTO, there shouldn't be many problems if it takes a day or two to get them to the treasurer.
If the treasurer is unavailable, and you don't know your chairs well, I would have a board member get the funds to deposit.
We are trying to start a new monthly fundraiser using Little Caesar's Pizza Kits. Our school secretary is saying legally she can't accept and/or keep money for a PTO fundraiser or she could be liable. The principal is not much help. I guess I'll go to the school district business manager but want to have some idea as to what other PTO's do in this situation. Currently we don't have a 'place' to keep $ at the school. Our cookie dough fundraiser nets quite a bit of cash. Our plan is to deposit money as soon as we receive it but we're not sure what to do when that may not be possible all the time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
