actually there is no fighting yet that is why we all just want to throw in the towel befor it starts...because it is headed that way.
It is alot more involved and complicated than I posted here.I could have wriiten a small novel.
We, the board have decided since this year would be the end of our 2 year term anyway just to start the election process as soon as possible. To answer C.Brooks question we were not elected we were assigned and all are the orginial founding members of our PTA. There was no organization-no school prior to us. So in a sense we are not resigning just calling the election sooner than it would have been.
A magnet school is a public school.
Thanks for your responses though they are helpful.
Are you a PTA or a PTO? I have no idea from your post.
If all but one member of your board resigns then that memember becomes acting President. The by laws should address what happens next. If they don't then you have a problem. If, the entire board resigns then you have a problem. Your by laws should address how to disolve your organization, if it does not you have a problem. Anyway you look at this you are going to have a problem.
I would ask is it really necessary for you all to resign? Can't you take your organization off campus? Is the problem between your organization and the principal really this servere?
If you are a PTA you need to talk with your state and perhaps the national orgainzation. If it is a PTO you need to find a common ground of copperation and failing that maybe bite the bullet and consider 1) taking the PTO off campus 2) vote to disolve 3) seek ways to find common ground with the principal.
In the end the ones that suffer the most form this sort of fighting are the kids!
We are not a PTA, it seems they have a lot of rules so I don't know what to tell you about that. Our by-laws states that an officer should give 10 days notice prior to resigning. That doesn't usually happen and we have an emergency meeting to elect new officers. That is probably what would happen if your whole board resigned. Our principal pretty much acts as the CEO, (I am thankful for that, we have a great one!)
How do you usually hold your elections? I would tell the principal or the board member that is not resigning to send out a newsletter announcing that the position will be open and voted on at whatever date. I think that would cause less confusion.
Is a magnet school a private school? I've been trying to figure that out for years. If not, and you are in a low income area, it's probably best that your principal, Title I or whoever does the grants. They may even have a grant writer. She should tell you that though.
we have made great strides as far as money earned (we have earned over $10,000 and we started with $0 )and getting people(parents) to come to events...come to events yes work them NO! The work falls on mostly our exec board in general and on the President and I(treas.)the most. we two have over 200 hours each this school year already and that is what we have turned in.
I hate to do this but feel I have no choice. The situation has just gotten too ugly. We have a new partent that is causing loads of trouble and a principal that wants to run everything and will not work with us. She applies for grants and will not tell us what she has applied for or with who and when we tell her we want to apply for a said grant she says I rather you did not. And don't ask such and such for a donation etc etc. I have found that I am spending way too many hours trying to make this work and parents are just uninvolved at all except to critize any and everything we do.
My questions are theses...
1. What happens if the full board resigns?one member may stay.
2. What do I need to put in a letter of resignation? since this is a volunteer positition not a paid one.
