One elementary school rec. $300,000

Maybe the school board will give more money to the "poor" side since the side with more money has the extra $300,000 to spend. Kind of like our state does with the lottery (I live in Ohio). People buy lottery tickets thinking they are "donating" a portion to education. But let's say the state has a budget of 1M to allocate to education. The lottery's "portion" adds another .5M. You would think 1.5M would then be allocated to education, as most people do in Ohio. But what ACTUALLY happens is the state's education budget is reduced to .5M so the schools are still only getting 1M. Then the state spends the other .5M that would have been allocated to education somewhere else. My point is this. Say your school board has 500,000 budgeted for technology/library updates on both elementary schools for the next five years. Now that the one elementary school has received 300,000 maybe they will only allocate $100,000 to that school and then $400,000 to the other school. Did I confuse everyone?

It's ear marked for library and technology over a number of years. What really burns us is the West side ran out of room to expand and their class sizes were in the 20's for 1st grade. The East was avg @ 15. The West flipped @ inequity in the schools in the town, since West couldn't add a classroom, they cut a teacher from the East to bring the class sizes to equity. East side was disappointed but understood, they would also be upset if they were on West side and class sizes were larger. This effects everything though, West no longer has to raise money for tech and library, so can now concentrate efforts on playground, enrichment etc. Also, there is only x amount of grant $$ out there from local businesses, they are still drawing on it. I had just approached a local business for $$ for enrichment and they told me they couldn't give me as much as they planned because West called just after me and they need $$ too!!!!! Of course this was a few days before I found out @ the endowment--but I'm sure West knew and still went for extra $$. Sorry I sound like an ogre and it was certainly a tremendous thing the citizen did but.......

Nothing as far as I can see. That individual Endowment is a gift from someone to the school. It's sad that the other school doesn't have any benefit but true. Someone generously decided to give money to a school I sure hope the powers to be at the school use the money wisely to enrich the education of those students. Maybe with things like a Gymnaisum, swimming pool or track that can be used by the whole community which would include be students from both schools.

Our town is basically split up into an East vs West. One side of town goes to a West Elementary and the other goes to an East Elementary school. Well the West Elementary just received a $300,000 endowment from a private resident. The largest donation of a private citizen to a public school in Massachusetts. Well as you can imagine the East side is VERY concerned about the inequities that will occur between the children in the SAME town but are attending on the East side school. Myself being one of them. Anyone out there dealt with anything similiar. Maybe, an elementary in a wealthy section of town vs. one in a poor section? What can I do to ensure the students on the East side don't get completely screwed?
