School Board Taking Over

21 years 8 months ago #97544 by mykidsmom
What our PTO has comprimised on with our school board is we are a committee branched off from them. We report at their meetings what is going on and what we have coming up.
This can about after the Prez was a "little" power hungry and parents not only asked the school board to help remove her but bann her...three years later and alot of meetings, we became a committee. This also made sense because the school holds our account (say what you want but try to "take" any of our money, it's impossible!) and we are there for the benifit of the school.
Was anyone on the board informed of the formation of the group? You and I know how rumors can be started and what happens when stories get outta control, I'm not saying that's what this is but if the diaper stinks....
can you call for a private meeting with the board to be heard and to let then know your intentions, we all know it's not to take over the world but they don't know that or need to be reassured! If you have only met twice, this is really new and (I'm thinking) the school just wants to know what you are doing. Yeah, they went about it in a crappy way but when your kid is "up to something" you want to know what they are doing then feel silly when they are only drawing a picture for you, right? Hopfully that is all this is, and it can be resolved calmly. A good idea or a small suggestion, hold off getting your PTG going until things are smooth with the school. We have nothing to lose as parents but I would hate to see this become difficult for the teachers. You and I both know the school would be _______
(jerks, yeah) if the teachers got any heat for this BUT....
Keep it simple, keep yourself strong and be able to answer their questions. It wouldn't be a bad idea to include them in the writing of your by-laws when the time comes... your right get this going first...

Good luck, and don't forget to show them your drawing when your done  ;)

What reason did they give for trying to do this?

Do you have your own separate tax id number or do you just use the schools?

We started a PTG ( parent teachers group) We voted in our President,VP and Secatary. Now we are told my the school board that they have put a president into office that we no longer have any of the people in office that was voted in. They say they are going to have a new election for the rest with there board member as president. I am wondering what we can do we are supose to be a diffrent enity then the school board.
