RE: WHEN HE IS ASKED ABOUT THE PTO IN GENERAL HE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO SET UP A TIME AND TALK BUT WHEN WE ASK ABOUT THE ACCOUNTS AND THE BALANCES HE GIVES US A ESTIMATE OF WHAT IS IN THERE. AT OUR LAST BOARD MEETING HE DIDN'T EVEN PROVIDE US WITH A PRINTED TREASURER'S REPORT ALL HE DID WAS TELL US AND WE HAD TO KEEP OUR OWN NOTES, BUT SOME OF THE NUMBER WEREN'T ADDING UP TO WHAT HE HAD SAID BEFORE.I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT I CAN DO TO GET HIM TO SHOW US PROOF OF WHAT WE ARE SPENDING THE MONEY ON AND HE NEVER DOES. SO MY QUESTION IS HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING HIM AUDITED?

What is his answer when you ask him directly why he won't divulge the PTO's business to PTO members? I can't think of a single scenario that would justify keeping this information private. It is absolutley the members' right to know the financial picture because it is the members' responsibility to spend the money in accordance with the PTO's mission. Let us know what his explanation is...

Based on my past experience, it sounds fishy to me. I would bring it up at the next board meeting. Word it so that it doesn't sound like you are attacking him though. If that doesn't work, have the principal contact the bank and explain the circumstances. He/She may be able to access the account. If that is successful, I would suggest a full audit!!!!!! Good Luck!

re: THAT IS THE PROBLEM WE DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY THE PTO HAS AND HE IS SO PROTECTIVE WITH EVERYTHING. WE HAVE A FULL PTO BUT HE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT HANDLES THE MONEY AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF HIS WIFE IS A PART OF THE PTO ALSO. DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY ADVICE?

We have a "treasurers report" at every meeting. How else are you supposed to know how much money there is to spend, fundraiser goals, budgeted expenses etc...?

PTO BANK ACCOUNTS was created by HEY ALL
I JUST STARTED TO BE APART OF THE PTO AT OUR SCHOOL. I HAD STARTED OFF AS A TREASURER AND THE PTO PRESIDENT WAS HANDLING THAT AT THE TIME AND WHEN I CAME IN HE WOULD NOT TURN ANY OF THE BOOKS OR BYLAWS TO ME. SINCE THEN I HAD STEPPED DOWN AND AM HELPING OUT RIGHT NOW BUT HE WON'T LET ANYONE IN THE PTO KNOW WHAT THE BALACES ARE IN THE BANK OR ANYTHING ABOUT THE BANK ACCOUNTS AT ALL. SINCE I AM NEW TO THIS I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD ANY ADVICE ON WHAT I SHOULD DO AND HOW DO I GO ABOUT TRYING TO GET HIM TO PROVIDE US WITH A REPORT.

THANKS
