Our PTO has a large executive board (25-35) people that runs the day to day business of the PTO. It meets monthly. We hold general meetings twice a year - in August to approve the budget and in May for elections.
I doubtful about this plan when I first got involved 6 years ago, thinking we HAD to meet every month. But our school went with this format years and years ago and everyone prefers it. Just to make sure, we've done end of year surveys asking if they want more meetings. I think about 86% want it to stay as is. A few would like 4 meetings a year.
Note our Board meetings are open to anyone who wants to attend and we are eager for people to get involved. We have pretty good response from parents for volunteer requests, they simply don't want to come to a meeting every month.
We still do momnthly meetings. We have some sort of presentation after each meeting. It's usually a grade of kids singing or something. It gets the parents there. Most sit and listen to us and that's helpful. We don't have a lot of participation, but at least the parents know what's going on.
That's exactly what our PTA does. We have general meetings every other month and executive meetings the opposite months. We use to have meetings every month but found that we were loosing parents and didn't always have new things to talk about.
We're still getting about the same number of parents, but I feel the meetings are more interesting.
Hi,
Do any of your PTOs meet every other month rather than every month. I was thinking if we alternated executive board meetings with general membership meetings (alternating every other month), we might have more enthusiasm and accomplish more. Any ideas?
