Our little league baseball organization does that as part of their "membership" fee. The card says it costs $15, but you get one with your registration fee. The card includes some buy one get ones and percentages off (like 10% off at Wendy's) We probably don't get our $15.00 worth because we forget the card most of the time, but $15.00 well spent on uniforms, umpires, baseballs, equipment, field maintenance, etc.
I talked to one company about doing them for PTO. We were to provide them with a list of local businesses, they would contact them, everything would be buy one get one or 50% off - they said making it more worth using the card, but if the card sells for $15 we would get 50% of that. There are several other posts on this site from someone who was going to try to do their own graphics, laminating, contacting businesses, etc. so as to retain more of the profit.
We have sold the cards that have % off or free items on it. We sold cards for $10.00 through a fundraising company. We didn't do the membership with it. That sounds like a good idea. We didn't sell a lot of the cards and still have 300 left (I'm trying to sell them this summer) The PTO thought the discount cards were great, but I guess other people were not sure about them.
Maybe it would work as a membership fee.
HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH SELLING PTO CARDS? THESE CARDS HAVE ABOUT 20 LOCAL BUSINESS ON THE BACK WITH %OFF WHEN USED AT THAT BUSINESS. WE ARE THINKING OF SELLING THESE AS A MEMBERSHIP FEE (ABOUT $15.00) AND THEY CAN GET THE USE OF THE DISCOUNTS ON BACK.
