Our Pto is very different in the way our money is handled. The school's accounting staff handles the paying of our bills, we keep a ledger and are reinbursed for our expences. When we order (ie playground balls from a local supplier) we submit the order to the staff and they use a credit card and debit our account. This when the whole idea came about, easier for the bookkeeper and we can make purchases without using our personnal checkbook (we don't have our own checkbook) This works for us and I know we will be really happy with the credit card.
It's great to get credit just watch out for what happens if the bill isn't paid on time or it isn't paid. I know that at my company where I work we couldn't even open a Office Depot account which entailed signing a personal signature of guarantee. In other words if the company doesn't they will come after the personal signature person. I prefer to sticking with writing checks and check request. Thanks for the info. It's great for those that want to take the risk.
It all started when my teacher rep last year mentioned she had so much left on her school credit card and wondered if the PTO could help her with a project she wanted to do. I went to the school's business manager and asked how and if the PTO could get a credit card. She said she would look into it. The last I knew we were getting a card from Office Depot (that is good anywhere) and the new team was discussing whoses name to put on the card. As far I know she went through the application process etc but I do have to apologize here as this was brought up two weeks before I was due so she (business manager) did all the work. Oh believe me, I have thanked her plenty!! Our school also went through a process to gain a credit card from the local supermarket which has helped!
