summer meetings

We're finally getting off multitrack (HOORAY!) and getting our longest summer break since my oldest son went into third grade, and he's graduating this year! We have just over 7 weeks to get everything together, so we hope to have one formal Board meeting and then to spend time getting things together for Back To School Night and our fall fundraiser. I can't tell you how relieved we are that we only have to do every event once this year!

Maggie, are you the Pres again next year?

I just came down from being President of PTO we met twice in the summer. I worked on a agenda and gave everyone their job descriptions. I handed out the 5 things you liked most about PTO and list 5 things you dislike about PTO. - Then on the dislikes I wanted to for them to share with the group solutions for each one. It was kind of great because those were the areas we definately targeted this past year. These were board members that I did not know. And we had a small ice-breaker. I Met with the principal to plug in PTO activities along to coordinate with the school calendar when the staff returned back which was one week before school. Then we met at the 2nd meeting and shared the list of 5 & 5 then I moved into the calendar. I made everyone a folders with calendars with the events filled in, PTO Board Roster w/email addr, Districts School Calendar, School Phone numbers. Discussed budget, open house, membership drive, By-Laws and fundraiser to get locked in with the dates. It was very helpful to prepare early. Because once school starts everything seems to be rolling pretty quickly.

Because we are a new school our exec committee is meeting very regularly (every 2-3 weeks) as we have so much to accomplish before school starts. As prez I must say I have the GREATEST exec committee, extremely helpful and willing to do whatever it takes to make this a success for our kids. There are going to be times we can't ALL be together, and we've agreed to go with concensus in those instances. Of course as a new school, and being new to Prezhood, I'm seeking lots of advice and help from you all, also - which is why in some cases I do have information but in more cases I have lots of questions!

I appreciate all of you who are so willing to share your experiences and can't imagine going through this without you! Thanks to all for putting up with me and for your help.

It varies for us, anywhere from 1 to 3 meetings per summer with a few individuals working sporadically on things we'll need right away.

Our new has called the first summer meeting for next week, so we are off to a good start.

Note, these have traditionally been very informal as we are primarily discussing routine plans. (Having the t-shirts ready, what information will we have at registration, what volunteers does the school need for Open House, what is our game plan for recruitment.) We pretty much focus on how to kick the year off.

The officers are meeting once a month. We are going to work on Community Day events, budget, review last years activities to help set goals for next year and the open house.
