I agree with same. I would start with a similar letter previously mentioned. How much the PTO has done for their kids, but now its time someone else steps up to the plate. You might mention stats on how much better kids do in school when their parents are involved. Mention how you would be (perhaps) VP? Or just be available for advice. Do you have any unfinished business? Perhaps you can mention that...you need someone to help finish getting the playground or organize a fun night, etc. Are you just in need of a Pres? Maybe you can start smaller???

I faced the same problem this year. I've ended the year with a letter to the parents stating the purpose/importance of the organization, challenges for the coming year and the fact that the organization would cease to exist if no one volunteered to be an officer. Leaving the position is a hard decision to make when there is no one waiting to take your place. But our children should be our first priority and we should never feel guilty for making them first in our lives.

Leave it up to the Principal, Teachers to recruit someone. Your family is first. Don't feel guilty. Maybe someone will step in when school starts just have everything ready for them. So, you can fill them in. I am sure when someone sees that there's no one someone will surely step in. Offer to be a mentor. Don't worry and don't feel guilty I was in this position a couple of years ago. When school started a board came together after 1 month. No one to vote them in because there's no previous board. They were just informed of what happened and how it was handled. I worked out fine.

I have chaired our PTO for 2 years. I have organized things, and have meetings and business running very smoothly. I am, however, overcommitted. A program I developed with a partner has taken off and when my partner moved, I found myself with full responsibility plus the PTO. I let everyone know that I cannot run for the next school year, yet here we are in May with no one stepping up to the plate. I am very frustrated. I simply cannot continue, flattered as I am that many would like me too. I chose to be a stay at home mom to be available to my kids. I am so busy with school business that my children are getting "ripped off". How can I find someone? Is it my responsibility? I have done everything in my power to recruit, with zero success. I feel guilty, but I need to let go!
