HELP the outgoing president is trying to sabotage me before I even get in office

22 years 6 months ago #96341 by dm3567
I am running for president of our PTO organization. The problem is the outgoing president did not really want to leave. All year she has been complaining about how much work it is and how she would never do it again, all the while hoping no one else would run and they would be forced to ask her to stay. When I said earlier in the year that I would agree to take over at the end of her term she was furious. She has been badmouthing me all year. But now that it is time for elections she and the other board members decided to talk another mother into running against me and even went as far as to nominate her themselves. That was fine, as I had no problem running against someone. The meeting date has been set for over a month for the actual vote but now that it is two days away, the current president and secretary are switching the date every day to something different. I have gone to our prinicipal for support with making them choose a date and stick with it but he is basically spineless and refuses to get involved. He is pushed around by both these women and has been for the last two years. In our bylaws it states that the meeting must be held in May but without out the principal's support I am not sure who would enforce this. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as solving this problem. I tried to talk to the current president yesterday but she got very snippy and stated that as long as she is still president she will make all the decisions and does not require input from members, teachers or the principal. I am very frustrated and do not know where to turn.
