 vp3kids,
I just tried to e-mail you but I'm not sure that it worked! If it didn't I was asking for more information on your standing Committee's. If you could e-mail me any information on them such as a description and budget for each I would appreciate it. My e-mail at home is This email address is being protected from spambots. Hi, that is the exact situation I was in this fall, the past group was not helpful to put it mildly. This board is outstanding! You might also look at the pta website because it will define roles for the various board members, they also have a discussion board which is sometimes helpful (just not as organized as this one ) Are there other PTO's in your area? You might try calling them as well and see what they have, look at your bylaws too, they should define your role at least a little. Good luck! maggie

Good for you! The transition can be very hard. I was VP this year and the outgoing executive comm. felt they were helpful but in reality only if we did everything their way. We are all going to be dealing with different issues and people every year. I feel change is good and every well run group needs it to stay active and positive. That said; The duties of president in our PTO are to oversee the PTO,preside at all meetings, Be a guiding force of all committees, act as a liaison between principle and pto, prepare an agenda for all meetings and appoint chairs. This is all in our bylaws. This year the exec. comm. all chose 2 committees to oversee and help out. For the most part this worked well. We worked on clear and assertive communication as a exec. comm. and we did improve, however 1 member did not feel it was worthwile and that bogged down the process.
Our standing committees are:
1.programs and events 2. Hospitality
3.fundraising 4. classroom & teacher
support
5. parent concern 6. funding & gift
7. after school 8. technology support
enrichment
9. art for education
10. newsletter and publication

I hope this was helpful to you. Good Luck!
Reading your message I realize not included in the above is what each committee does. If you would like more info. let me know. I need to go now.

I am the new PTO President for next year (2003). As a matter of fact next years board will be completely new. The old board has been in controll many years and is not willing to share any information with us, since they have been voted out. I am trying to learn my duties as President. I would appreciate if anyone could send me any information on duties and also any detailed information on any committies within their PTO. Thanks so much.
