We are carring over $2500. to next year, however we budgeted for calendars and planners and stuff that needs to be for next year in our year end budget. Because we were a new school last fall we had no money to do the begining thins with. I am not sure if this is right or if it will work, but we are still learning..

In our by-laws it states that we carry over $7,500 for the next school year. We have found that this is the amount needed to start off the next year. At the beginning of the school year we give each classroom $250.00 to buy materials, we pay for our assemblies, and all of the scholastic readers for each class. We also provide each classroom with $400.00 to use towards costs of a field trip. The money we carry over covers these costs. If we waited until after receiving the funds from our only fundraiser we would not be able to do anything until November.
The question has been asked each year...why do we carry over so much?? The kids who fundraised should see those funds the year they made it...our response has always been, "Each child who enters this school in Kdg. starts out receiving all of the extras the PTO provides before they even have the chance to fundraise and that is how it equals out".

I am a previous executive board member of our elementary PTO. I served two years as secretary and after a bit of burn out, took a break this year. This question arises after hearing that our current account balance is around $10,000. At this late date in the year, this surprises. Do any of you out there have a limit on what is carried over to the next board? I have a feeling the returning board does not want to do much fundraising next year and are not spending enough on our current enrollment. Any ideas?
