I did our PTSO newsletter last year and the year before...I loved it - they turned out great. I can send an example to you and you can play around with it in your works program. I also used a print program from time to time to make some logo's and specialized graphics and then just copied and pasted into the newsletter in Works. Good Luck!
Personally, as our secretary, I use Microsoft Works. It does come standard with any computer that has windows. Most of the people on our board has it. (They don't always use it but they have it!!) I like the fact that it has a newsletter template, letter and envelope templates and most important for me..SPELLCHECK!! LOL! It also has the option of a one, two or three column newsletter. I hope this helps!

Only thing to remember in doing this is that you want to get a compatible program that other people have just in case there's a change in the person doing the newsletter. No everyone has publisher at home.
A lot will depend on the type of computer you have. I can't really say for Mac. Most PCs either come with Microsoft Works (possibly including Microsoft Word), or the Microsoft Office Small Business Edition.
You can do amazing things with Microsoft Word anymore, but for our newsletter we use Microsoft Publisher. Publisher is part of the Office SBE. It includes wizards to help you set up a newsletter (as well as many other special documents).
Publisher is not as powerful as professional caliber programs like Pagemaker, but it certainly meets our needs. Plus, considering that it was already on the computer at our house, it was as good as free.
If you want to buy Publisher, as I recall the list price is around $125. If you want to buy a complete Office suite, check the version -- Standard does not include Publisher, but I believe Professional does. The Small Business Edition is only sold with a new computer.
I've just been elected Secretary of our PTO. Part of my duties are to send out a newsletter - just wondering if there are any good software programs for newsletters.
