To ptsoparent,
We are in the process of typing up a copy of our nomination form now, along with that form is a discription of each position. As soon as this is available, I will email a copy to you. P.S. I agree!
To lliband and TheMetzyMom,
Thanks and I will take this to the committee, Just for FYI, we do put out a description, but I like your ideas about hours, requirements, etc. So since I'm President, or should I say MADAME PRESIDENT, am I now considered COOL BOSS??? LOL
Thanks Gals!!!
I think that lliband has the right answer. If, and that is a strong if, you can't ask outright about someone's flexibility and ability to make monthly meetings, make sure that they know what the job entails. More importantly, make sure EVERYONE knows the time and effort a position requires so that there are no problems down the line when someone says "Well I didn't know it was this much work or would take this much time". One of the things I suggested to our parents who were thinking about positions, was that they spend a week with the person who currently holds the position they are looking into. This will give them an idea of the work and time and it will tell you who is up for the position and who is the weakest link!
Good Bye!
Seriously, it did weed out most of the Wanna-Be-The-President-Because-It-Looks-Cool-And-Sounds-Great-And-I-Get-To-Be-The-Boss candidates right away. Most of them were shocked to find out that we DON'T get to make the decisions...lol...
just an idea but instead of an asterick maybe you could put the responsibilities/expectations of the positions people are being nominated for. time commitment requirements, meeting time/schedule, regular duties. it may scare a few away but have the current position holders add a few words about the job from their perspective including the time commitment aspect. I think the nomination form you mentioned seems like a great idea..won't don't send anything out like that but it might work for our group...I am not a lawyer or anything but I cannot see how asking some questions pertaining to a person's availability could be illegal..you need to have an idea the time someone will be able to devote to the job...could you send me the form?
We are ready to send out our nomination form, on the bottom of the form we were wanting to know more about the person being nominated. We are a new school, its hard to know everyone. Anyway, on the form we were wanting to ask " Does your schedule allow you the flexibilty to attend monthly meetings? and we were also wanting to put asteriks by the positions we feel need a bigger time commitment. One of our committee members feels that it is illegal to ask that question because it sounds like we are being too selective. We just need a Board next year that as some time to put towards doing their positions, some people worked and had no flexibility, so quess who wound up doinf it... The Exec. Board!
