I can feel for you - 3 years ago when my daughter was in Kindergarten the PTSO board consisted of 3 parents, they were all going ot be leaving at the end of the year...they spent months -pretty much beggin for anyone to step forward, and with only 6 people max at the meetings, they were not having much luck ...they also worked wit the teachers and eventually the principal trying to find parents they thought would be good...to no avail...I finally volunteered for the secretary position and another mom the treasurer however, by start of the new school year we were it...no pres no vp. It was hard going for a while but we were determined to get more parents involved - it was out mission. We had a parents tep forward for the pres position ab out a month into school. We focused on getting out news about the ptso and what we did. We had a banner made for the front of the school to announce our meetings we sent home reminder flyers the day of the meeting, we talked and talked and talked...by the end of our first year we had approx. 30 parents at each meeting and our next year we had 40+ at one...this was huge for us. It seems like a small task but we now have many parents handling smaller jobs. For instance we have a parent who does the bulletin board, someone who handles box tops only, someone who only does the campbells, someone who only does the ink jet recycling, etc. Parents get a chance to help without getting overwhelmed and then sometimes it is those parents who step forward for bigger jobs. Our board this year consists of 4 members and we are constantly working to keep parents involved by sending home surveys, sign ups, newsletters, etc....please let me know how else I can help you.

Here's an oar...I'm in the same boat right now! I don't even have a Secretary or Treasurer, well, I take that back, I have a Secretary but we have not seen or heard from her in months so...yeah. My VP is a good friend too but she is so burnt out it's difficult at times.

Since you are without By-laws, I would suggest cracking open a book of Roberts Rules of Order (I have seen them everywhere and not really expensive- actually worth the money) this little red book can help you organize a night for nominations and the following month elections. That is of course if you want to go down that road. This would be a good time to decide also how to run an election, you could have it one night from this time to this for an election, run it during the day- an open election from the start of school till...you get the idea.

Hope this helps...may the force be with you!!

I have been VP for 2 years now, my friend is President. The tresurer, secretary and newly appointed fundraiser persON is leaving coming end of year. How do we go about electing or getting HELP. We do not have any bi-laws, my friend and I came on board in the middle of the game two years ago and we merley were ELECTED to do this. we are trying hard, but no luck in getting ANY parent involvement at ANYTHING, even fundraising! let alone signing up to be on the board, we need desperate HELP! or it is just the two of us, which we seem it will end up that way! It has been a very frustating road ..but we don't want to just quit, we want to be involved in our kids school, we already send flyers home basically "begging" to be invovled in your childs' school. no luck.... any suggestions.... This is a middle school.
