Yes, our PTO has spent about $50.00 on each exiting President each year. No one has ever complained or questioned it. My gosh, the PTO would not have raised much money at all without these great people. I will nominate the first person who objects to this practice in our PTO for President...
Yes, we raise the money for our students and school and should not spend it on the PTO board.
But when I was president, I saw the dedication and committment of the board members and felt it needed to be acknowledged. Instead of introducing the new board at the last meeting the outgoing board was recognized. Each board member at the end of the school year recieved a handwritten personal note from myself expressing my gratitude for their support and involvement. They also were given a very inexpensive academic calendar planner with a cover that had the school's name and mascot on the front. They seemed to appreciate the sentiment and gift even though they were not expecting any type of gift.
(I paid for the cards while PTO paid for the calendars. Around $60 for a board of 32)
Has anyone ever used PTO funds for small gifts or as a dinner out for the officers and board members leaving? Or as just a way to say thank-you for all their hard work for the school year even if they are staying on the Board? I'm not talking huge amounts of money, something around $50.00. Please respond - am very interested in hearing what your PTO's have done. Yes, there are many volunteers in our school and our school does hold a Volunteer Recognition Celebration at the end of the school year. But being on the PTO Board is not an easy job and takes up lots of personal time (at nights/weekends, etc.). Many thanks for your replies!
