I think a meeting is in order so a president can be elected. It is not up to you to save the organization and if you have not been actively involved since you left the presidency you may not have the support that you need. (Not that your note said what your involvement has been). I would definately contact a regional PTA person for advice and help. According to our bylaws, there are specific measures to be taken in the case of a resignation, you can't just "take over" even if you have the best of intentions. Find those bylaws, talk with what's left of the current board, and good luck!
Just such a mess. I've been talking to the principal trying to smooth things over, as he's had his fill of rumors and stuff too.
The one who resigned caused SO many folks to walk away. I told the current officers although by the BOOK< they did things OK, but a lot of folks were treated badly, and that is a harder thing to fix. How to deal with people isn't in any book, and none of them went for training.
I told the principal that altho I could come back in, I don't want to be seen as the one who swoops in to save the school. No one wanted to run, until this one said she would, and in 3 months, all my hard work fell apart. Very sad.
Get those bylaws out-usually 2nd in command until new president is elected is the 1st vp--if you need assisantce go to your district chairperson. One thing i stress id that yes we are all volunteers, but their is a professional business end to PTA's and PTO's and the peopel who accepted the position shoudl act like business people. Walking out as president and telling no one is like George W Bush resigning and telling only Dick Cheney.
I was Pres. at our school for 2 years. I left in May. She and I (the new one) do NOT get along. I just found out she resigned by letter. She only told one officer. It is SUCH a mess.
