burn out

Can someone give me a little advice regarding "expenditure approval policies"? I feel our principal supports the idea of our PTO's goal of enhancing our school for the kids, but when it comes to us wanting to do this, it seems our school administrators have to approve everything the PTO spends money on. The underlying message being if the PTO does not spend their money as they are told, our fundraising efforts may seriously be curtailed. This is so frustrating for us since our PTO members have really banded together over the past few months and now instead of praise for our efforts, it seems we are just meeting major roadblocks. Any advice, out there?

I'm right there with you. I'm serving my 3rd year as treasurer for a PTO and am really unhappy with the attitude of our principal regarding PTO funds. I think it's imperative to stick to your guns regarding expenditure approval policies...or adjust the by-laws to make the policy clearer if need be. Good luck!!

I HEAR YOU!!!

Hi, I am in my 2nd term, 4th year as pres and I hear you. Luckily, our PTO is at a point that it runs itself and we have good support from the principal. What I mean about running itself, good chairpeople who can do things on there own.

Anyway, I am not as motivated as in past years and it makes it difficult sometimes.

What I do to get over it is, go to the school, see the kids, give a few high fives and it makes it all worth while.

I thought I was the only one who felt like that. This is also my 2nd year as pres. The one good thing is that our fundraiser went well. Of course the principal already has plans for that money!

Does anyone have any advice on what to do for PTO burn out? I am in my second term as president and I'm not sure if it's because of the stressful holiday time or what, but I am getting sick and tired of putting up with parents complaining about everything, having to take teachers by the hand to get them to help out and having a principal who thinks that the PTO bank account is his extra little piggy bank. Why is it always the same parents that get stuck doing it all? THANKS SO MUCH for letting me vent. What do the rest of you do to ease the stress??
