Last year we started doing two new things with our newsletter that worked. One we started thanking a volunteer of the month with a write-up and 2 we started to include a column that focuses on how getting involved is good. Different reason each time.
We have a PTO newsletter only it only contains 1 page. Remember to keep it simple.
We post PTO events upcoming; general pto
information. The school puts one out and we do the other. You can put volunteer information if you need to recruit. Any items PTO has purchased since the last newsletter. A short message from the president.
mom&teacher: Please consider registering. It only takes a moment. However, then you can choose to make available some basic information (like email)that responders can see when they click on the little idex card icon on your posting. As is, we don't have your email address to send you any samples.
We publish ours monthly, perhaps skpping December (Winter Break) and March (Spring Break) since they are short months. I try to target ours for mid-month, after the monthly PTO Board Meeting. The school sends home its newsletter on the 1st, so this gives parents two different times to see dates, be reminded of events, etc. Ours is either 1 page front and back or 2 front and back. We use a newsletter template in MicroSoft Word and copy it on colored paper.
I feel ours is especially important as our PTO only holds one general meeting in August to approve the budget and one in May to elect officers (by choice - we polled the parents again about this last year). Anyway, it's critical that the Board communicate well with the parents, so the newsletter is ideal.
I wish we planned ours better, but frankly I usually draft another Board member and we just throw it together. (I honestly don't think it looks "thrown together, but it would be nice to have the luxury of first and second drafts, large input, etc.)
I the president of my kids schools PTO and am wanting do a PTO newsletter this year and would like some examples of newsletter done before. If you have done them, could you send me a copy? Or give me ideas of what all you put in them? How often do you do them? ETC... Thanks! I am also registered now, but am not sure why it keeps showing unregistered?
