In our school newsletter, our PTA treasurer submits an article each month called "YOUR PTA $$$ WORKING FOR YOU!" We have found that this is a great communication tool for our families and it gives us a great sense of pride each month when we see how much we have done.

MO2, that's a great idea. In addition to displaying our activities in our main display case, I'm also doing at least one FUN thing. Thru this forum I've found a web site where you can create puzzles. puzzlemaker.school.discovery.com/chooseapuzzle.html So I've created a word search puzzle entitled "LOOK WHAT ROBESON PTO SPONSORS!" I did one with a hidden message (Robeson PTO is awesome). You list the words that are hidden, so I included many of the activities that we sponsor. (Like assemblies, school fair, movie night, parties, holiday shop etc..) I plan to add clip art and leave them out on the PTO table on back-to-school night.

I was able to do something along the same lines but our Principal gave me an ext. at school so I did not have to give out my home number! My husband has even talked about giving me a separate e-mail account for our privacy that I can use for school.
Food for thought..... you have a great idea though!

I always encourage presidents to do this very same thing upon the start of a new school year. By sending out a bulletin titled in some great way:

WHAT HAS THE PTA/PTO DONE FOR THIS SCHOOL, AND THE STUDENTS OF OUR SCHOOL?

Let's see, and then list the many things - from bringing in many wonderful cultural art programs (list them all ), to funding the field trips and or buses so that students could go beyond the classroom to learn, to the many things bought for the library, or the computer/research lab , science lab, or whatever and more that you can list. LIST, LIST, LIST (keep it simple and easy to read the list).

It always amazes parents when you put the message out in a format they can comprehend in one swoop - and be wowed!

Then end the message like above: f you would like to join our PTA/PTO please call our membership chairperson with phone #. If you would like to help out and make new freinds please call our volunteer co-ordinator with phone #.

I expect you'll get excellent results - best of luck!
