We have a New Parents Breakfast on the 1st full day for Kindergarteners (1 week after rest of classes). We invite all kindergarten parents and new parents that have moved to our school. We offer donuts, juice and kleenex to those mom's who need them. We go over our signin process, name badge necessity, volunteer surveys, and answer any questions they might have. This is our second year. It has been very successful. After the students are dropped off in their classes, the parents stop by our media center and learn more about our PTO. It helps them feel more at ease and welcome in our school. They only stay about 30 minutes but they seem to enjoy it.

we have a kindergarten round-up, the principal gives a speech and fills the parents in about things. But, she also invites the pta to come. So, the pta president stands up gives a speech about how excited the kids get to see their parent sneak quietly around the corner while their helping out with one thing or another. And how fast the years go once they start school. This kind of stuff really gets their attention. Then we let them know all the events and programs we have throughout the year. Finally, we show them the sign up sheets so they can put their name & # on which-ever event or program they would like to help with, at the end of the meeting. We got a very good response. And they have an idea of who you are and are more comfortable at the beginning of the year. Our K round-up takes place end of May,for the next years kids. good luck.

GOOD LUCK! I thnk you have a great idea. We have already started school here. I sent a newsletter that I started this year. In the letter I made a special note not only to Kindergarden parents, but new parents to our school in general. I wanted to do something in the spring when we had the round up for kindergarden. I was due with a baby end of May and did not get to it. Keep up the great work! Yes I also know how it is not being able to resign. Good Luck!

Wow, I never heard of anyone not being allowed to resign!

Our PTO has been involved with Kindergarten Orientation for the last few years. 1 or 2 of us goes in and gives a little speech about what the PTO is all about. We've never set up a table because this takes place during the school day, and the parents are pretty involved in their child's new classroom. We set up a table at our back to school nights (we're multitrack) to get information to as many people as possible. If your group doesn't agree to a table at K orientation, you could suggest just giving a presentation. Good luck!

hi guys, I know, I know, I told you all that I resigned (which I did, but the principal laughed at me and told me I couldn't) Anyhow, we had a very long meeting at which most of the calendar was set, budget finalised, etc. Here is the problem, the old board is now chairing certain committees and refuses to let me say anything. I feel that it is very important to make the kindergarten parents feel welcome, and let them know what the pta is all about. To do this I wanted to have a table at kindergarten orientation (before school starts) Everyone had a fit, and pretty much said, "oh, you do that at back to school night." (true, but everyone is much more into meeting the teachers and finding out what the kids will be doing, etc. that night.) I think we need to catch them before that while they are still excited. So I have decided to be there that night. I sent a (nice) email to the membership person this am offering to set it up and everything, so I guess we'll see what happens, should be interesting by the time I get home tonight from work. Wish me luck!
