We have had a problem with bad checks and people just not turning in the money. We have sent letters and contacted the court house about legal action and was told it would cost us more money to sue than they owe. We have 3 families that owe us over $800. and no idea how to get it. Any one have an idea?
We have burned often so we started taking the checks to the bank where they are from and asking them to exchange it for cash. It's a hassle but better than letting people get something for nothing. That is how our bank suggested we fix the problem. If it is the same person consistently, then it is time for a letter.
Our school handles such matters and has a policy of $20 check return fee no matter what the check was written for. Would your school's bookkeeper be able to aide you with such info?
We have been lucky as we do accept checks but with the school's help, we have yet to have been 'burned' (I know now that I say that...)
Hopefully your school can help as I have learned they usually have better legal advise than we can afford!
Does anyone have a form letter that you send to people who give you bad checks? Usually we don't accept checks because we've been burnt in the past but once in a while someone gives us one and their accepted. The problem is that sometimes we don't have a clue how to get ahold of them except their address (not listed in phone book and sometimes parents names don't match childs) so we're looking for a letter that is strong and to the point.
You can send it to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
